THE STYLE CLOSET & CHAINS INC...GUIDE TO BLACK TIE

If you follow me on social media (@vintagedee or @_stylecloset) then you should know that I’ve been helping out with an upcoming event organized by Delaware’s local non-profit, Chains, Inc

About Chains, Inc.
The Chains,Inc. mission is to motivate, encourage, and support 8-12th grade students by linking them with mentors in their desired career path and building their networks while setting high expectations and exposing them to new cultural experiences.

Why Black Tie?
The Chains, Inc. team has been working tirelessly around the clock for the past few months on an event taking place on Saturday September 13th at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts called, Delaware’s Forty Under 40. Delaware doesn’t have the greatest reputation when it comes to our successes; some people still don’t know that Delaware is an actual STATE (seriously people where did you go to middle school?). So, the purpose of this event is to highlight those people in our community who stand out in all aspects of their lives and who are doing their part to better their communities; and it just so happens that they are all under the age of 40.

Because this is not just a typical event but an award ceremony we have chosen to make this a black tie affair. But what does that mean for you as a guest or honoree? We decided to make this guide to help anyone with questions on what a black tie dress code is really all about.

Black Tie Q&A
Do I have to wear a tuxedo?
Typically when a “Black Tie” dress code is given this does mean that a tuxedo is required, however for this event this element will not be strictly enforced. We do ask that gentlemen come in a suit with matching pants and jacket and opt for a traditional long tie or bow tie.

Do I have to wear all black?
No! A “Black Tie” dress code does not mean you are limited to all black attire. This is NOT an all black party. Feel free to wear bright colors in elegant styles.

Do I have to wear a gown?
Yes….and No! For women, a “Black Tie” dress code does mean a floor length gown is requested. However, we are allowing appropriate cocktail style dresses as well. Skin tight body-con dresses are not acceptable at this type of affair.

What type of footwear can I wear?
For a black tie affair dress shoes are required.

If you have any other questions about the event or the event’s dress code please don’t hesitate to ask the Chains, Inc. team. We understand that this is the first public event of its kind in the Tri-State area and that you may have questions. Email: chainsde.com

Looks we love…
To help you get a better understanding of the type of looks that should be at a black tie event we’ve pulled together some suggestions that are currently available at Macy’s and Rent the Runway. Ladies, we highly recommend looking into Rent the Runway which allows you to rent designer gowns; so instead of spending $300 on a gown you will only wear once you can rent one for as low as $70 (AND your first rental is $25 off!).

1.      Badgley Mischka Award Winner Gown, $70 (rental)
2.      ML Monique Lhuillier Jadore Gown, $125 (rental)
